This might sound weird, but most of the songs here (except for Everybody Hurts) just make me feel bad. However, I found incredible comfort listening to All Saints – Never Ever. “Now I'm just waiting, 'cause I heard that this feeling won't last that long.”

There are millions of sad breakup songs, but my favorite empowering ones are:
1. Free as a bird – Beatles (just to remind me that although i broke up, i'm free again and that's a good thing!)
2. You'll see – Madonna (motivating…)
3. Good riddance – Green Day (when you come to the moment you realise that you broke up and decide to let your ex, and yourself, free and take your own paths. Really healing song, it helps me everytime i hear it)
4. You oughta know – Alanis Morissette (for the first angry period..)
5. Mmmbop – Hanson (this ones reminds me of my teenage years! This part of the song is the right thing to do:

you can plant any one of those
keep up to find out which one grows

I love the song 'Best Thing You Never Had' by Butch Walker. All of his lyrics are so wonderful, but this one in particular really helped me!

Another that helped me to look back on my previous relationship with fond memories rather than sadness and regret was Without You by Hinder.

It's about learning to appreciate that you had the relationship, but it's time to focus on your own happiness, and truly loving yourself. It allowed me to let go of all of the negativity I began to harbour for him and our relationship that was cut short.
