The Most Beautiful Love Poem In The World

by

romantic love poemsI would like to share with you a little romantic love poem I discovered some years ago. I sort of like it, because in my opinion it differs a little from other love poems. You literally feel the electrifying intensity. It moves you to depths you never knew about.

Of course, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder they say, but this love poem conveys a certain truth we all know or hope it exists, and we all long for having it in our lives. It gives us a short glance how life should be: sweet and passionate.
To me personally, the following poem is the most romantic love poem of all romantic love poems.

Wait a minute, you might think. Why does Eddie Corbano show me such a poem, beautiful or not? Hey, this wouldn’t be a LovesAGame article if there would be nothing to learn from it, right?

Now, after reading the poem below, I want you to ask yourself the following: have I ever felt in such a way? Do I have a fundamental understanding what this poem is about? What is my concept of feeling love?

Furthermore, if you are in a fulfilling relationship, I want you to let this love poem elevate you to a new level of passion and sensibility. Read this poem together with your partner and find together the truth in it for you.

If you are currently in a long distance relationship, send your love this poem by letter or email along with some personal words from you.

If you are suffering from a recent divorce or break up, let this short love poem remind you that it still exists. It’s still out there waiting for you to find it. It’s certainly not dead.

So obviously I’m sharing this with you for three reasons:

  • to delight you with some insightful piece of art
  • to elevate you and your partner to a new level of understanding true love
  • to remind you that the love in which you believed once still exists

So, no more talking, here it is the most romantic of all short love poems, enjoy:

Looking For Your Face

From the beginning of my life
I have been looking for your face
but today I have seen it

Today I have seen
the charm, the beauty,
the unfathomable grace
of the face
that I was looking for

Today I have found you
and those who laughed
and scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
as I did

I am bewildered by the magnificence
of your beauty
and wish to see you
with a hundred eyes

My heart has burned with passion
and has searched forever
for this wondrous beauty
that I now behold

I am ashamed
to call this love human
and afraid of God
to call it divine

Your fragrant breath
like the morning breeze
has come to the stillness of the garden
You have breathed new life into me
I have become your sunshine
and also your shadow

My soul is screaming in ecstasy
Every fiber of my being
is in love with you

Your effulgence
has lit a fire in my heart
for me
the earth and sky

My arrow of love
has arrived at the target
I am in the house of mercy
and my heart
is a place of prayer

Beautiful, isn’t it?

This is Rumis “Looking for your face”. There is also a remarkable recitation along with some awesome music (look out for track 14): A Gift Of Love. Check it out.

I once looked into her face, it was her, the one. She is now gone, I am alone & slip sliding away. I have to close my eyes and there she is, I feel the way now that I felt then, what a blessing to feel that, the most wonderful part of our lifes. LOVE….. Now and Forever!

  • rsfeller

yuck. the cheese factor is a bit much, i do love my wife and 1/2 this poem just sucks. plus if you are atheist the whole god things ruins it…

    shawn

  • Kate

I agree with Shawn. It’s just too cheesy. In my opinion, one of the best short poems for a ldr is Merwin’s Separation:

Your absence has gone through me
    Like thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color.

  • teemu

Agree with kate&shawn , too cheesy and full of worn-out valentine´s day slogans.
kate´s one hit more closer to home concerning the type of poetry i like.

  • Will

I agree that the poem is cheesy and obvious. My favorite:

If I had a single flower for every time I think about you,
I could walk forever in my garden.
    Claudia Ghandi

  • Amar

Cheesy or not, I like it! It’s good to read something simple and brought to the point! Besides, everybody’s taste is different!

  • Shanna

Wow, you guys know some nice poetry. I like the short ones, but I have to admit I like the one in the article too!
Is there really something like “too cheesy” where love is concerned? Sometimes your feelings just flow sweet and overwhelming like honey so that the next day you even ask yourself if that was too much. But in the right moment it’s never too much!! And sometimes you need more than two lines to express your feelings…

  • http://lovesagame.com Eddie

    Carter, Kate and Will,

very nice poetry, indeed. Thank you for posting it!

The poem in the article is from Rumi, a 13th Century brilliant Persian mystic who is now one of the most widely read poets in America.

  • pretty brown

Well I am hopeless romantic and just fell in love with poem. Now that’s poetry. I’d have to agree with Amar, we all do have our own unique taste!!

I would like to send this poem to someone who I love and still haven’t start a relationship with me yet. I have this feeling for her.

  • Blondie

Just for poetry sake…this is absolutely breathtaking. It is so full of emotion, you can just imagine that is behind it. So much feeling and love. Just to be able to give that to someone you love….says a whole lot about your feelings for them!
    Beautiful.

  • corazon a cruz

The author has a way with words, indeed. The poem evokes a certain emotion that makes me cry for a lost true love. I like the poem.

Fantavulas, simply saying – i am out of words. so long i am looking for such a site & also for such a poem. THANKS

  • alesha

thank you for that i can feel my bf now

  • ilovelove

    Beautiful poem!

True love, real love – love – is cheesier than the cheesiest of all cheesies; those who truly love understand this, and will not use the words ‘love’ and ‘cheesy’ in one sentence. When it comes to love, too much is never enough.

I get it, Eddie, thank you for sharing this great love poem!

    Best regards,

    ilovelove

  • Dori

There is a poem that has touched me much like this one- It is from the movie “Somewhere in time” It is called….
    Is it you?
“The man of my dreams has almost faded now.
The one I have created in my mind.
The sort of man each woman dreams of in the deepest
and most secret reaches of her heart.
I can almost see him now before me.
What would I say to him, if he were really here?
Forgive me, I have never known this feeling . . .
I’ve lived without it all my life.
Is it any wonder, then, that I failed to
    recognize you?
You . . . who brought it to me for the first time.
Is there any way I can tell you how my life has changed?
Any way at all to let you know what sweetness you have given me?
There is so much to say . . . I cannot find the words.
    Except for these. . .
    I love you.
Such would I say to him,
. . . if he were really here.”

  • http://lovesagame.com Eddie Corbano

    Hi Dori,

Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful poem, I like it very much.

It makes me realize that in fact everyone of us have this “perfect lover in our dreams”…

    SONNET XVII

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
Or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
In secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms but carries in
    Itself the light of hidden flowers;
Thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
Risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
    I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
So I love you because I know no other way than this

Where “I” does not exist, nor “you”,
So close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
So close that when you close your eyes I fall asleep.

Thank you for that wonderful poem.

    so i give u like 8 1/2 :)
    keep up the good work.

  • Peter

And sometimes we lose. Here is my poem for my love. Any of you who understand it, please enjoy it.

    You Never Knew
When we met, I knew you
    but you did not know
why I (of all) should be
    so moved; you made me
    catch my breath as though
    my heart were lanced
    I was an enigma coming
    when for you fleeing was
the only thing to do -
as facing all the pain just
could not be; so much to
    flee! and resolution far away
    More flight, and yet love
    still eludes you, as smoke
you run to catch the wind
    never stopping long enough
to see your face reflected in
    the dew of God’s tears
    One day you may
    with time and tide
    become what you really
    are inside. That “you”
I saw and can no more
    forget than stop my heart
    C= 2008

    my favorite poem.

Even after all this time, the sun never says to earth, “you owe me”.
Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky.

  • Matt

Poetry can be cheesy or boring or Amazing in anyone’s eyes but every poet and person who writes poems write for a reason. and every line has an explanation. cheesy is a formality that people use because they’ve heard it to much. but life isnt forever and words cant just dissapear nore be created differently. the heart is a dellicate and ruthless essence in my eyes. if treated and used right life can become complete but if handle wrong you get a scar of pain but with that scar you learn and should move on with the fact that you are granted with life. although i am young i’ve learned a great deal of love and realized many things. this poem and any poem with a persons true feelings in it will always get me.

A night of thunder and rain
    I am crying with pain
    My mind starts hurting
After my heart is done flirting
    I walk outside
    With death on my side
As I look up at the raging crying sky
    Wanting to fry
    My heart is in two
    I don’t know what’s true
I add to the earth my own rain
    Without any strain
    I look back
    Right on track
    Then I look now
    I ask how?
I said to one side of my heart
    I don’t want to depart
    But it was to late
    There goes our fate.
    But then the other side
    Comes in with pride
    Beautiful by fate
    Wonderful by trait
    It starts taking over
I was lucky as a clover
    Happy by sunrise
    Sad by moons rise
I wish life could be easier
    But that couldn’t be cheesier
    Defending myself against suicide
    I hold it with pride
One day life will be better
    As I write this letter
Take me for who I am
And ill take you for a ham

a poem i wrote when my gf broke up with me

  • Tisi

@Carter – Isn’t it rather vain to see someone and decide that it’s love solely based on appearance? That’s lust. I love. It’s more than just seeing a pretty person. You have to know someone. You can be attracted, and grow to love them more as you know them better. It’s not instant, and it’s just not about looks. It’s so much bigger than that.

  • SHIRIN

it is not easy to breaking up to your love because it hurts so much. letting him/her go is not easy to do. in that memories that you have in your whole life with him. please help me to find Mr. Right.

I am a dancer in a company and this year we are doing a dance to this poem. There are 5 couples and most of the choreography is done on the floor. (It is very intimate) It is just a man reciting the poem with light music in the backround. It’s lovely.

  • Seante

There are no words to espress my feelings of love for my man…all words only penetrate the surface of how I truly love him.Its my belief that true love cannot be expressed in words.
But you can definately see it in my eyes and smile

  • juli

    @Matt -

    that is a beautiful poem

  • love

    How do I love thee?
    I cannot count the ways.
As your beauty is much more
Than mere words could ever say.

  • matt

    @juli
    Thank you!

You should listen to it in Persian. That’s where its real beauty lies.

    Favourite too <3

  • Seante

for my love I cannot even express the love that I feel for him…my writings only touch the surface of my heart that he now owns.
Writing him a poem is nearly impossible because this love cannot be expressed with words.
    But you can feel it.
A wonderful phenominal out of this world feeling.
And as I said….one that cannot be explained.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shourya-Verdhan-Singh-Sengar/100001446915597 Shourya Verdhan Singh Sengar

      thats absolutely correct…
Love is a feeling which cant be expressed in words , cant be sing in a song , cant be writtten in a poem but can only be felt by the two beautiful hearts who share such pious feeling….!!!!

  • trueheart

This poem isn’t necessarily talking about love for a person. It is much more beautiful than just that.

  • Raecheal

The Rumi poem is much more than love of a person he is putting into words LOVE of SELF….. only when one has a direct experience of Self can they see this kind of love reflected in another human being…it is Love in the Absolute and it is beyon physical and romantic it is unconditional acceptance… BEAUTIFUL and INSPIRING.

  • Seante

this is a poem that I wrote to my love who is also my flight instructor…wo is also a lot older then I…but our love can conquer any obstacle.
He told me that I needed to find someone my own age and this was my response….
    the same man twice

My love my one true love
Who gracefully flew down from above
The one who captured me at first sight
The one who made my life worth the fight

My love my one true love
We fit together like hand in glove
Nothing of difference my dear comes to mind
Our love bound in truth so perfect so refined

My love my one true love
In my life you are now a part of
melodies of love linger through the air
The world most beautiful at the love we share

My love my one true love
Our love so wonderful is what I speak of
As we wonder through in this brief eternity
Our love brought together through lifes destiny

My love my one true love
Why is it that push comes to shove
To destroy loves harmony that we share
to hear those words I cannot bear

To leave me now after the love we shared
I dont understand love I thought you cared
True I may lose you when death throws fates dice
I dont want to lose the same man twice

in2 my heart air dat kills
      from yon far country blows
what r those blue remembered hills
what spires what farms r those
dat is the land of lost content
      i see it shining plain
the happy highway where i went
      & cant came again

  • http://www.clayhalo.com Teri

    @Raecheal

Rumi was a spiritual mystic, so his poems can be interpreted many ways that are spiritual and not necessarily religious. In the poem “Looking for your Face,” he is describing the “face” of his lover, his own face, and the face of “God,” or a higher power which is inside everyone and experienced through the act of loving.

Rumi’s poetry was written in the 13th century within the spiritual realm of Sufism, which is fairly esoteric to most Westerners. Rumi is for lovers. It can be difficult to relate to the passion and divine love of which he speaks unless one has known this kind of love. Hence, the “cheese” factor.

  • http://lovesagame.com Eddie Corbano

    @Teri

    Excellent.

Thank you for your comment Teri.

    Oh sleepless night
casting a shadow on my existence
    silence drumming like thunder
    memories racing
    page upon page turning
I laugh in spite of myself
    even in the darkness
    I see everything
    suddenly awaken
    though never sleeping
    rain plays a melody
    tapping on the rooftop
    mind dances in rhythm
    laying in darkness
    melancholy state
    the obscured stillness
    rhythmical patters of breathing
    hearing my own breaths
    sympathetic heart
    breaking from the absence
    persistent desires
    luring me into lunacy
    sweet sweet senseless insanity
    all and only for you
    beloved you
    lights flicker on the horizon
    agitating my eyes
    reality returns
    I sleep

    LOVE…
    is a stream never ending
it flows from the heart and binds the soul
its clear, sparkly with delite as your essence shines upon me.

    emphaty and
    everlasting grace
to the ones that beholds the truth of the lives
